The Capsule will be off-grid and powered by a “power plant,” which integrates a vertical axis wind turbine and solar panels. Construction is expected to begin in 2010 at Piz la Ila (Alta Badia, Italy), and the structure will be located at an altitude of 2,100 meters. Rather than building a cabin in the traditional alpine style with wood, Lovegrove’s goal was to create a place where visitors could be safe and warm while still being able to appreciate the amazing landscape surrounding them. “It’s completely transparent from the inside, and at night you can see the stars. That will be a remarkable experience to be warm and cozy and intimate with this vast universe.”

No less than 95.000 visitors. An increasingly international and professional interest. On Sunday evening, THE INTERIEUR 08 Biennale in Kortrijk Xpo closed its doors after a highly successful 21st edition.

Interior design lovers turned up in droves at Kortrijk between 17 and 26 October, for the 21st in-ternational biennale for creativity in interior design. No less than 95.000 visitors turned up at INTERIEUR 08 to feel interior architecture and above all to experience design. What was noticeable was the growing number of professional visitors. On the opening day, which is reserved exclusively for professionals, 5% more visitors turned up compared to the jubilee edition in 2006. The number of international visitors also increased this year, with visitors from 60 different countries and more than 800 journalists from all corners of the world. Last week's headline of the Financial Times was: 'Interieur still stands out among the plethora of design fairs around the world for the quality of what is on display and for its originality of presentation'.

INTERIEUR 08 was also more spacious than ever before. Literally. With a beautiful architectural stand layout and a comprehensive programme. In addition to visiting 315 different brands, visitors to the biennale were also able to follow 25 lectures with well-known names such as professor Michael Braungart, cartoonist Joost Swarte, designer Erwan Bouroullec, architect Fabio Novembre, designer Inga Sempé, architect Minsuk Cho etc. Also unveiled and displayed were the first Belgian Design Awards 08, as an introduction to the new initiative Design at Work, which will premiere in December 2009.

The 22nd edition of the INTERIEUR biennale will take place from 15 till 24 October 2010.

Sonnabend and Kenny Schachter/ROVE announce an exciting new exhibition opening on November 1st, 2008, a two-venue New York show of Zaha Hadid’s new installations.

There is a long and well-established history of art galleries showcasing the drawings, models, industrial designs and artworks of architects, not least Peggy Guggenheim’s Art of This Century. However the exhibits at Sonnabend and at the 10th Avenue space will reinvent the relationship between architect and art. A series of large scale installations use architecture as the conceptual origin for sculptures, reliefs, hybrid design objects and paintings that have a remove from the initial utilitarian derivation and meaning of the works.

Though these projects begin as architectural commissions, the works on view inform an international discourse on processes, technologies of manufacture, and on form itself. They develop spatial representations that redefine the notion of physical space by warping, pulling and pushing the boundaries of the galleries until we are left with architectonic interpretations that create new and unfamiliar interior landscapes.

In one instance, a wall is transformed into a life sized relief from which flows, as if in motion, an elegant, futuristic desk. In another piece, “Masterplan”, originating from Hadid’s citywide plan for the Asian side of Istanbul, the scheme is inverted to create a grotto of forms that defy gravity to morph from the ceiling. “Kloris” is a cluster of seating elements and sculptures inspired by the shapes of flower petals.

This show reflects Hadid’s vision of a new twenty-first century urbanism; part of a revolutionary body of works based on organic systems of organization. Each piece explores a new living environment using a formal language of fluidity. They seamlessly integrate art, design and architecture into our lives.

These pieces provide a basis to live with architecture in ways previously impossible. Each installation offers elements of Hadid’s 30 year explorations into an architecture of fluidity at all scales.

This show is not solely art, design or architecture, but rather a hybrid quoting from all three. Though some objects are imbued with functionality and ergonomic considerations, that is not the point. This is an organic sculptural installation about manipulating space and formal integration. Each piece describes movement in a static material using state-of-the-art methods of design and fabrication.

The Sonnabend and 10th Avenue exhibits build on the excitement of the Mobile Art: Chanel Contemporary Art Container being installed in Central Park, presenting a far-reaching opportunity to view the myriad of art and architectural processes of Zaha Hadid. She has transformed our vision of the future with new spatial concepts and bold, visionary forms . These exhibits herald the launch of a new category of collecting -- Architecture Art, akin to the recent advent of the contemporary design market.

In November 2008, there will be a unique and unprecedented chance to see Mobile Art: Chanel alongside two major galleries exhibiting ambitious new, large-scale, sculptural installations, the likes of which New York has never before seen.

Internationally renowned designer Philippe Starck is going to be heading up a specially created School of Design in Paris. And he needs students to populate it. For the fortunate few who make it to Paris they will face a grueling period of assessment over several months before one of them is offered a six-month placement with Philippe Starck.

From all the entries to this BBC website, the number of applicants will be whittled down to 25. Those twenty five will then pack their bags and head to Paris to meet the man himself.

Starck will give you your first assignment to assess your potential. The results will be judged and will serve as the basis for sending 15 applicants back to the UK.

The remaining 10 will begin their life as students living and working in Paris directly under Starck and his team over a period of several months. The 10 aspiring designers will be given a variety of assignments designed by Starck to challenge your vision, your talent, your ambition and your beliefs.

The assignments, kept as an absolute secret for now, will give you the fantastic opportunity to meet vanguards of 21st century design, experiment with concepts and materials and help create, for the best ones, your own prototype objects that may well be the next ‘must have’ products of this century.

It’s the chance of a lifetime to work with the world’s most respected designer and experience a brave new world of visionary ideas based solely on your imagination. In the end one of you will continue your studies under a master of perception and illusion – Phillipe Starck.

Bastard Materials.
The series of bowls are made of mass produced porcelain. Patterns are cut and removed from the pieces and the missing matter is replaced with flexible rubber.

Porcelain and rubber stand for two opposite worlds. Porcelain is a ceramic material. It is 'earthy' by nature and represents thousands of years of skilled craft and tradition.

Endoskeletons
is a system that applies the structural principal of a skeleton to the domestic environment. Rather than regard our homes as exoskeletons; containers for our lives, I place the components on an articulated structure and the space creates itself around it. Materials: wood, steel, upholstery

I am fascinated by how different parts work together in unexpected ways that are, none the less, perfectly valid. I believe in design that fulfils a function and at the same time possesses a new, unusual quality, something you can marvel at but also put to actual use.
